On Saturday, September 24, 2022, Andersonville National Historic Site will be taking part in National Public Lands Day (NPLD), the nation’s largest single-day volunteer event on public lands. This event is held annually on the fourth Saturday of September. Volunteers play a vital role in the preservation and protection of our nation’s history and it’s treasured natural and cultural resources.
Andersonville NHS will be hosting an event on September 24:
- 9:30am- Volunteers arrive at the National Cemetery flagpole in order to register and receive safety brief
- 9:45 am- 12 noon: Volunteers and park staff will clean headstones throughout the cemetery. Volunteers are encouraged to wear closed-toed shoes and sunscreen as well as bring water, sunscreen, and gloves to help park staff honor the memory of these men and women who served our country. In recognition of their service, all who participate in this event will receive a fee free coupon which will allow them a “fee-free” day at any participating federal recreation site with the next calendar year.
