Sept. 9: bills handled by Transportation and Infrastructure Committee

The Transportation and Infrastructure Committee handled H.R.8785, H.Res.1337 bills on Sept. 9, according to the US Congress.

Bill H.R.8785 titled “Lake Erie Water Quality Protection Act” was referred to the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure by the House of Representatives. The bill is sponsored by Rep. David Joyce.

Bill H.Res.1337 titled “Lauding Virgin Islanders for their perseverance, grit, and tenacity through major disasters attributable to Hurricanes Irma and Maria and Members of Congress for their support in accruing funding to support the Virgin Islands of the United States through these disasters”. The bill is sponsored by Del. Stacey Plaskett.

The Transportation and Infrastructure Committee moves forward in some way on one bill per day.

Most bills have a hearing where those involved explain why they are for or against the bill. Roughly 8,000 bills are addressed by committees each year but only about 800 make it to the floor of Congress, according to ushistory.org.

A 2019 report from the Brookings Institute argued committees aren’t capable of delving fully into the issues they address and are forced to rely on lobbyists.
