The following press releases was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, Bureau of Land Management on Dec. 6, 2012. It is reproduced in full below.

As the current Deputy State Director for Minerals in New Mexico, Tony Herrell has a wide knowledge of the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) in New Mexico, Arizona and Eastern States offices. Spanning almost 30 years of service, he has distinguished himself through a variety of leadership activities demonstrating broad and deep experience. Notably, his leadership in minerals, managing a new National Monument, use of electronic tools and Geographic Information Systems to advance National Environmental Policy Act needs in leasing and production, as well as public engagement and litigation, mark him as the right person to help shape and guide BLM Eastern States (BLM ES) into the future. Eastern States office's future is very much tied to a number of activities, but very importantly so to minerals as well as oil and gas leasing."Tony's deep experience can help meld these needs into the natural order of work at the Eastern States," said John Lyon, BLM ES Director. Tony has developed and implemented large and complex budgets of a variety of size and has initiated highly successful business development programs, Annual Work Plans, and long- and short-term strategic planning and execution. The most recent example of his leadership is the potash work in New Mexico and Texas that has drawn national attention and recognition for his collaboration with stakeholders, the public, and to the U.S. Congress. Tony expects to report for duty March 10, 2013.
