On March 29, the BLM Billings Field Office released its draft resource management plan for a 90-day public review and comment period. As part of the review and comment process, several open houses are being held throughout the area to answer questions and gather comments from the public that will be used to develop the final plan.

The Draft Billings and Pompeys Pillar National Monument Resource Management Plan and Environmental Impact Statement proposes different alternatives for managing public lands within the Billings Field Office boundary. The draft plan also includes a range of conservation measures that address Greater Sage-Grouse in the area.
The open houses will include introductions and a brief BLM presentation, but the purpose of the gathering is to offer an opportunity to talk one-on-one with various BLM resource specialists to gain information about what is in the plan. The BLM is not recording verbal comments during the open houses, but comment forms will be provided for members of the public to submit written comments.
The planning area for the Billings Field Office includes 434,154 acres of BLM-administered surface land and 1,839,782 acres federal mineral estate in Carbon, Golden Valley, Musselshell, Stillwater, Sweet Grass, Wheatland, and Yellowstone counties in Montana as well as portions of Big Horn County, Montana and Big Horn County, Wyoming.
