DOLORES, Colo. - The Bureau of Land Management announced a two-week scoping period on a proposal to offer five parcels totaling 5,443 acres in San Miguel, Dolores and Montrose counties in its Feb. 13, 2014 lease sale. This scoping period is part of an environmental assessment that will allow the public an opportunity to provide feedback on the five parcels proposed for leasing.
These parcels are identified as available to oil and gas leasing under the current resource management plan for the Tres Rios Field Office. The RMP also identifies what restrictions or stipulations are included with the leases. These stipulations are posted online at www.blm.gov/co/st/en/BLM_Programs/oilandgas/oil_and_gas_lease/2014/february_2014_lease_sale/feb_2014_lease_sale_nominated_parcels.html and include protections for water resources, soils, steep slopes, big game, raptors, migratory birds, cultural resources and threatened and endangered species.
“The environmental review will help us determine whether the existing stipulations provide adequate environmental protections for the resources," said Connie Clementson, BLM Tres Rios field manager.
To help determine the specific resource protections, the public may assist the BLM staff by submitting written comments prior to completing the environmental assessment.
