With the Fourth of July holiday approaching, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has implemented a statewide fire restriction order for all BLM-managed public lands in New Mexico. The order is necessary due to extreme fire danger from prolonged hot and dry weather conditions. The following acts are prohibited:1. Discharging, using, or possessing fireworks.2. Discharging or firing any incendiary or tracer ammunition.3. Burning, igniting, or causing to burn any tire, wire, magnesium, plastic or any hazardous or explosive material (including exploding targets).Violation of this prohibition is punishable by a fine of up to $1,000 and imprisonment for up to 12 months. These restrictions have been coordinated with the other land management agencies, the New Mexico State Forestry Division, and affected counties.
