GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - The Bureau of Land Management seeks public comment on a preliminary Environmental Assessment for an oil and gas exploration project in Mesa County.
A scoping period for the multi-well proposed project concluded Dec.1, 2011 with a 30-day comment period. The BLM has since prepared a preliminary EA to identify the possible positive and negative impacts of the project on the environment.
The Fram Whitewater Master Development Plan is an exploratory project with plans for up to 108 wells on 12 new well pads. The project is planned for an area about 15 miles east and southeast of Grand Junction, east of Highway 50 and north of Kannah Creek Road. The project proposal spans a four-year program of mainly oil exploration under public and private leases. Construction and operation of the Whitewater MDP could allow for production of up to 8.7 million barrels of oil over the life of the project, estimated to be 20 years. Natural gas is typically co-produced with oil but is not anticipated in quantities that would be compressed and sold to markets. This proposal includes construction of new well pads and roads as well as support facilities such as oil, gas and water pipelines.
