Today the BLM announced that it will be extending the public comment period for the Draft Resource Management Plan (RMP)/Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for western Oregon. The comment period that was originally slated to end on July 23, will now end on Aug. 21, 2015.“We heard from well over 30 organizations, elected officials, counties and others that they all needed extra time to review this comprehensive planning document. For that reason, I've decided to extend the comment period," said Oregon Washington State Director Jerry Perez. The Draft RMP/EIS for western Oregon addresses a range of alternatives for the purposes of producing a sustained yield of timber, contributing to the recovery of threatened and endangered species, providing clean water, restoring fire adapted ecosystems, providing for recreation opportunities, and coordinating the management of lands surrounding the Coquille Forest with the Coquille Tribe.“We have made this decision to ensure that this planning effort is conducted in an open and transparent environment," continued Perez. Additional time will allow the public to review a number of key documents that have been made available online and at over 40 public meetings, open houses, and technical workshops.
