DOLORES, Colo. - On Thursday, Oct. 22, Harvey Leake will share his experiences and his research on his pioneering ancestors, the Wetherills, as a part of the Four Corners Lecture Series hosted by the Bureau of Land Management at the Anasazi Heritage Center (27501 Highway 184, Dolores, CO). The presentation starts at 6 p.m. and admission to the museum is free.
The Wetherills, a pioneering family who first homesteaded in Mancos, Colorado, became ranchers and explorers who investigated the archaeological wonders of the region. Over thirty-five years ago, Leake began his investigations taking him to libraries, archives and the homes of Wetherill family elders whose recollections, photographs and memorabilia brought new perspectives on his family. His field of research also led him to remote trading post sites in the Navajo country and some of the routes used by his great-grandfather, John Wetherill, to access the intricate canyon country of the Colorado Plateau.
“This is a unique opportunity to hear insights from Wetherill family members," said Marietta Eaton, Canyons of the Ancients/Anasazi Heritage Center Manager.
Leake was born and raised in Prescott, Arizona and is a semi-retired electrical engineer.
