CANON CITY, Colo. - The Bureau of Land Management Royal Gorge Field Office, Park County and the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment will be drilling groundwater monitoring wells at the old Park County Landfill starting on May 16. The groundwater wells will establish a long-term groundwater monitoring program as required by state and federal regulations.

The landfill is on BLM-managed public lands and was leased to Park County in 1967 under the Recreation and Public Purposes Act Lease, specifically for a landfill. The landfill was operated by the County from the 1970’s to 1990’s. Drilling is expected to be completed on May 20.
