BLM Wyoming Celebrates the Federal Land Policy and Management Act's 40th Anniversary

The following press releases was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, Bureau of Land Management on Oct. 17, 2016. It is reproduced in full below.

Everyone is invited to help Bureau of Land Management Wyoming celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Federal Land Policy and Management Act (FLPMA), Friday, Oct. 21, at the National Historic Trails Interpretive Center in Casper at 2:30 p.m.

BLM Wyoming State Director Mary Jo Rugwell will open the event followed by Con Trumbull, talking about BLM’s history and the impact FLPMA has had on public land management.

“Many people don’t know that BLM manages one out of every 10 acres in the United States and 30 percent of the nation’s mineral estate. We want to use this event to highlight the outstanding work our employees accomplish every day," said Rugwell.

FLPMA became effective 40 years ago, on Oct. 21, 1976. It has served as BLM’s guiding law since that time.
