PARKER, Ariz. - The Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM) Lake Havasu Field Office plans to conduct prescribed burning on the Parker Strip from Nov. 1, 2016, through April 1, 2017, as weather and fuel conditions allow. The burn area is located 7 miles northeast of Parker, AZ and 0.5 miles west of Parker Dam Road near Crossroads, on the California side of the Colorado River. Burning is expected to occur several times during the period as additional vegetative material is brought to the burn site. Burning is expected to be completed in two days and is being conducted to eliminate slash piles created during maintenance of BLM recreation sites and fuel breaks on the Parker Strip. Removal of vegetation in these areas helps to reduce the threat of wildfire and improve access to the river.
BLM fire management personnel will ignite the piles when weather and vegetation conditions allow for safe burning to minimize any potential threat to area residents and visitors. The piles are expected to burn down quickly, and smoke should disperse out of the area in a short period of time.
Jeep trails accessing the burn area may be temporarily closed and monitored by fire personnel during the burn operation to provide for public safety. The burn will not affect local traffic. Residents should expect some light smoke in the area during burn operations.
