Gallery Receptions to be held for Black Rock Artists in Residence

The following press releases was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, Bureau of Land Management on Nov. 8, 2016. It is reproduced in full below.

Winnemucca, Nev. - The Bureau of Land Management Winnemucca District (BLM) and Friends of Black Rock High Rock (FBR) will be holding two reception events to celebrate the work of the two artists selected for this year’s Black Rock Desert-High Rock Canyon Emigrant Trails National Conservation Area (NCA) Artists in Residence (AiR) program. The receptions will be held on November 19th in Gerlach, Nevada and on December 3rd in Winnemucca, Nevada. The exhibition in Winnemucca will last until December 10th.

Artists Megan Berner and Deborah Finley were granted residencies during the spring of 2016 at the NCA. Megan lives and works in Reno and her medium is photography, videography and mixed media. Deborah lives and works in Elko as a ceramics sculptor and art teacher.

Each artist received a stipend from the BLM and FBR to complete their work and spent two weeks in the NCA to gain inspiration for their work. "We are excited to showcase the artwork from this year's program. The artists' unique perspectives highlight the beauty of the area," says Michael Myers, Executive Director of FBR.

The Artist-in-Residence program promotes awareness through art of the exceptional places protected within the BLM’s National Conservation Lands. The program provides an opportunity for learning and dialogue regarding the value of preserving public lands. "The National Conservation Lands are special places and this year's artists have done a tremendous job interpreting this landscape," says Barb Keleher, BLM Nevada Recreation Lead. “We are all interested in sharing their work and passion with you."
