Temporary road closures possible in the San Luis Valley

The following press releases was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, Bureau of Land Management on Feb. 21, 2017. It is reproduced in full below.

MONTE VISTA, Colo. - The Bureau of Land Management may initiate several short-term road closures in the San Luis Valley. As temperatures increase and accumulated snow begins to melt, some roads may be temporarily closed to motorized and mechanized travel.

“Public safety is our number one concern," said San Luis Valley Field Office Manager Melissa Garcia. “Temporary closures aid in preventing undue damage to these roads and the costs to repair them."

Certain roads and trails in the area are already closed to protect wildlife during the difficult winter months. Weather-related closures are usually temporary, with roads reopening when they are dry enough to withstand traffic.

For more information on current BLM seasonal road closures, please call the San Luis Valley Field Office, 719-852-7074.
