Northwest Oregon: Limited Camping Access in the Molalla River Corridor

The following press releases was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, Bureau of Land Management on May 8, 2017. It is reproduced in full below.

Salem, Ore. - The Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM) Three Bears and Cedar Grove campgrounds, located in the Molalla River Recreation Corridor, will be temporarily closed to general camping this summer while maintenance crews complete needed restoration work at the sites. The campgrounds will remain available for use through a Special Recreation Permit for group camping events; the issuance of permits will be contingent upon needs of the scheduled work crews.

Vegetation and facilities at the campgrounds have been badly damaged due to misuse by visitors. “We understand that many visitors and members of the local community do value these sites, and appreciate their efforts to help stem the misuse that has occurred there in recent years by some individuals," said John Huston, Cascades Field Office Manager. “We will work diligently this summer to help the vegetation recover and make needed repairs so that we can consider reopening the sites next season."

For further information or to request a permit, please contact Recreation Planner Dan Davis at (503)315-5935 or ddavis@blm.gov.
