Washington: Towell Falls Road to remain closed

The following press releases was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, Bureau of Land Management on May 26, 2017. It is reproduced in full below.

SPOKANE, Wash. -- Towell Falls Road in the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Spokane District’s Rock Creek management area will remain closed to motorized traffic this year. This route particularly susceptible to wildfire ignition from vehicle use due to the presence of tall vegetation on the roadway during the summer season and is normally only open to vehicle traffic from April to mid-June. However, the road has a portion that is currently under water so the Border Field Office will be leaving the road's access gate locked. There is a pass gate to allow hikers and horseback riders access to the road and it is approximately three miles to Towell Falls from the pass gate. Please use caution when moving off the road as the ground is muddy in spots and can be hazardous to horses.

The Rock Creek management area is located about 20 miles south of Sprague, Wash. in Whitman and Adams Counties.
