BLM issues closure order at Wilson Canyon Recreation Area due to public safety issues

The following press releases was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, Bureau of Land Management on June 22, 2017. It is reproduced in full below.

CARSON CITY, Nev. - Effective immediately, public lands east of Smith, Nevada, in the Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM) Wilson Canyon Recreation Area, are closed to all forms of public access. This includes the Day Use area as well as the recreation area along Copperbelt Drive. This closure will remain in effect until river conditions allow for safe use of the area.

The closure is necessary to provide for public safety and for the protection of resources due to unusually high river flows that have made the area dangerous to the public.

Any person who violates this closure order may be fined no more than $1,000.00 or imprisoned for no more than 12 months, or both.

The Wilson Canyon Recreation Area managed by the BLM’s Carson City District Sierra Front Field Office. For further information contact Bryant Smith at 775-885-6000.
