SILT, Colo. - The Bureau of Land Management plans to begin construction of a small parking area on the east side of the Sutey Ranch parcel the week of Sept. 18. The day-use only parking area should be completed in about three weeks.

“This day-use parking area will alleviate the safety issues along County Road 112 and facilitate public access to this newly acquired parcel," said BLM Acting Colorado River Valley Field Office Field Manager Gloria Tibbetts. “The Sutey Ranch parcel is public land open to hiking and hunting, but until we develop a specific management plan for the Sutey Ranch parcel, no motorized or mechanized access will be permitted."

The BLM acquired the 557-acre Sutey Ranch north of Carbondale and 112-acre Haines Parcel along Prince Creek south of Carbondale through a land exchange completed in March.

The BLM will work on the management plan for the newly acquired parcels this winter. The planning process will include multiple opportunities for public involvement.

More information about the exchange, including maps, is available at www.blm.gov/programs/lands-and-realty/colorado/sutey.
