Fire officials fighting Winter Valley Fire in northwest Colorado

CRAIG, Colo. - Fire officials are fighting the Winter Valley Fire in Moffat County, Colo. The fire is now estimated at 5,200 acres on BLM and private land, and is actively burning on Cross Mountain. A Type 3 Team is assigned to the fire.

Highway 40 is currently closed. Several oil and gas structures, communications towers, a Federal Aviation Administration structure, and about 25 residences in the area are threatened. The County has recommended residents evacuate.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
