Recreation open house on Swiftwater Park Area

The following press releases was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, Bureau of Land Management on Nov. 29, 2017. It is reproduced in full below.

Roseburg, Ore. - The Roseburg Bureau of Land Management (BLM) will host an open house on Tuesday, Dec. 12, from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. The open house is to provide information and solicit ideas from members of the public about the possible recreational uses and opportunities for the former Douglas County Swiftwater Park, which was recently acquired by the BLM. This land acquisition effort will help make America great again through shared conservation stewardship and by working with our partners to promote multiple-use on public lands. This will be the first of several open houses to allow the BLM to hear from the public regarding future uses for this parcel.

This parcel lies within the Wild & Scenic River Corridor of the North Umpqua River and the acquisition helps protect, maintain and enhance the outstanding values for which the river corridor was designated: fish, water quality and quantity, recreation, scenic, and cultural values are all a part of this area. The Wild & Scenic River Corridor is popular with outdoor recreation enthusiasts and receives between 100,000 and 250,000 annual visitors including anglers, boaters, bikers, hikers, campers, equestrians and plant & wildlife viewers. The former Douglas County Swiftwater Park currently has a small parking area, pavilion, restroom and connectivity to the North Umpqua Trail.

The location for the open house is at the BLM Fire Cache, located at 2300 NW Aviation Dr., Roseburg, Ore 97470 and will run from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2017. Additional information about Roseburg recreation opportunities is available at: www.blm.gov/visit
