BATTLE MOUNTAIN, Nev. - The Bureau of Land Management, Mount Lewis Field Office, is intending to conduct slash pile burning in Eureka County around the community of Eureka and near Garden Pass based on the continuation of the previously conducted Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) fuels reduction projects. These burns are used to enhancement fuel breaks surrounding the community of Eureka and to serve as protection in the event of a wildfire.
Pile burning is expected to occur in mid-January, but may occur anywhere between January and June 1, 2018 and is contingent upon favorable weather conditions. The intent is to dispose of slash piles that were previously generated from thinning activities, which were conducted to protect the community from wildfires.
Smoke may be visible at times from Eureka, and other nearby communities. Ignition operations will be intermittent to allow for adequate smoke dispersal and will likely last several days.
