WINNEMUCCA, Nev. - The Black Rock Redezvous will proceed this weekend after the weather around the Black Rock Desert High Rock Canyon Emigrant Trails National Conservation Area improved Friday. Highway 447 leading to the NCA is open and the BLM will be setting up camp Saturday morning.

Certain planned activities may not occur depending on the ground conditions. The weather forecast for the Gerlach area lists a chance of scattered showers Friday evening and Saturday and mostly sunny on Sunday and Monday.

“Our main concern is the safety of the public, employees and our partners," said Black Rock Field Manager Mark Hall. “Heavy rains and thunderstorms can create driving hazards on roadways, and mud slicks that make vehicle access difficult, particularly when hauling a trailer. Traffic on muddy backcountry roads can also cause ruts, erosion, and other damage so people should check the weather and road conditions before heading out."
