BLM Announces Temporary Safety Closure of Public Lands for Reno Air Races

CARSON CITY, Nev. - The Bureau of Land Management, Carson City District-Sierra Front Field Office, announces the temporary closure of 450 acres of public lands adjacent to and north of Stead Airport in Washoe County, Nevada, due to activities related to the National Championship Air Races. This action will be taken in the interest of safety for both spectators and participants for qualifying and competition events during the Air Races on September 8 through Sept. 16, 2018.

Throughout both racing events, the area of public land will be patrolled by the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office in coordination with the BLM. The patrols are intended to ensure that a safety perimeter within the course area is maintained during the temporary closure periods.

Temporary closure restrictions do not apply to event officials, medical and rescue personnel, law enforcement, and agency personnel monitoring the events.
