BLM releases draft supplemental environmental impact statement, potential amendment for Miles City resource management plan

The following press releases was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, Bureau of Land Management on May 17, 2019. It is reproduced in full below.

MILES CITY, Mont. - The Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM) Montana State Office today published a draft supplemental environmental impact statement (EIS) that augments analysis for the 2015 Miles City Field Office Approved Resource Management Plan (RMP). The BLM is preparing this analysis in response to an order from the U.S. District Court of Montana, which directed the BLM to supplement the approved RMP through an analysis that considers reducing available coal and accounts for impacts from climate change and downstream combustion.

The BLM will accept public comments on the draft supplemental EIS until Aug. 15, 2019. The draft supplemental EIS provides updated information and additional analysis to guide land use planning decisions on coal, oil and gas, and to determine what federal coal should be made available for leasing.

During this public comment period, the BLM will hold a public meeting to answer questions and provide more information on the project. The meeting date and location will be announced at least 15 days in advance. To review the draft supplemental EIS and submit comments, please visit the project’s ePlanning website at https://bit.ly/2Q7FRru. For more information, contact Irma Nansel at: (406) 233-2800.
