BUFFALO, Wyo. - The Bureau of Land Management Wyoming today published a record of decision for the supplemental environmental impact statement that augmented analysis for the 2015 Buffalo Field Office Approved Resource Management Plan. The BLM prepared the supplemental EIS in response to an order from the U.S. District Court of Montana, Western Organization of Resource Councils, et al. v. BLM, that directed the BLM to supplement the approved Buffalo RMP by considering reducing available coal and accounting for impacts from climate change and downstream combustion of fossil fuels.
The approved RMP amendment determined about 495,000 acres of federal coal are available for consideration for leasing. This area includes all the acreage identified in the supplemental EIS as available under the action alternative, as well about 41,000 additional acres that were included under the no-action alternative. The BLM made this decision as a result of public, stakeholder and cooperating agency input.
