FAIRBANKS, AK - On July 3, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) will partially reopen the Five Mile Campground located five miles north of the Yukon River bridge on the Dalton Highway.
The BLM closed the campground June 11 to allow firefighters assigned to the Isom Creek Fire primary use of the facilities due to the proximity of the fire.
Successful fire suppression and cooler, wetter weather have reduced the number of firefighters assigned to the fire, allowing the BLM to reopen most of the campground. Areas remaining closed to the public, including the public dump station, are still in use by firefighters and will be flagged or marked by signs. The public is asked to please respect the closure areas to support continuing firefighting efforts. Visitors will continue to have access to the campground’s artesian well.
More information is available by contacting the Bureau of Land Management Fairbanks District Office at 907-474-2200.
