BLM requesting public comment for Truckee Meadows Water Authority proposal

BLM requesting public comment for Truckee Meadows Water Authority proposal

The following press releases was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, Bureau of Land Management on Aug. 5, 2020. It is reproduced in full below.

Carson City, Nev - The BLM, Carson City District, Sierra Front Field Office, is seeking input that will be used to prepare an Environmental Assessment to analyze the direct, indirect and cumulative effects for a proposal from Truckee Meadows Water Authority (TMWA) to construct, operate, and maintain an underground water main and pump station in the Toll Road area, in Washoe County, Nevada. Public comments will be accepted through Aug. 22, 2020.

TMWA’s analysis of the South Truckee Meadows General Improvement District east water system indicates there is low water pressure and inadequate water flows for firefighting activities in the system. The proposed improvements will alleviate the low pressure and inadequate flow conditions and increase public safety.

The proposed water main is approximately 1,513 feet long and the pump station will occupy a half acre. An alternate alignment has been proposed if the permission for installation of a portion of the waterline on private land cannot be obtained. The alternate alignment is located entirely on BLM‑administered land, and is proposed to be approximately 796 linear feet, with a 20 feet wide right-of-way (ROW) (0.36 acre) and a temporary construction area of an additional 30 feet on the west and south sides of the alignment (0.58 acre).

“We welcome any comments the public may have on this proposal and encourage them to share any information, issues or concerns that may need to be considered in the development of the environmental assessment," said Kim Dow, Acting Sierra Front Field Manager.
