(BUTTE, Mont.) - The Bureau of Land Management’s Butte Field Office has rescinded an Emergency Closure Order issued earlier this month temporarily restricting camping, day use, road access and hunting in the Little Whitetail and Hay Canyon areas in Jefferson County due to the State Creek Fire.
The BLM’s action comes as the Forest Service issues a new closure for the fire, which closes all roads and trails in the area.
“The Forest Service road and trail closure will allow for fire line repair and road rehabilitation which are necessary due to suppression of the State Creek Fire," said Acting Butte BLM Field Manager Lindsey Babcock.

The BLM’s recission of the Fire Prevention Order takes effect starting at 12:01 a.m. Sept. 26.
The State Creek Fire was detected Aug. 29 about 16 miles north of Whitehall and has since burned 4,050 acres in an area difficult for firefighters to access due to rough terrain, numerous snags, and a significant amount of dead and down trees. Fire personnel continue to monitor fire and mop up perimeter as needed.
