CARSON CITY, Nev. -The Stillwater Field Office has completed the Environmental Assessment (EA) and Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI), and has issued the Decision Record for the Desatoya Herd Management Area Wild Horse Gather EA. The project will occur in the Desatoya Mountains, located in Churchill and Lander Counties, approximately 90 miles east of Fallon, Nevada.
The Decision is to gather and remove excess wild horses from within and outside the Desatoya HMA to achieve the established Appropriate Management Level (AML) of 127-180 wild horses and implement a range of fertility controls to maintain the population within AML over a period of up to 10 years. The EA analyzed the direct, indirect, and cumulative effects from implementation of the project. A 30-day public review period was held from Dec. 10, 2020 to January 9, 2021.
