CASPER, Wyo. - Join the National Historic Trails Interpretive Center this Saturday, October 30 for a special showing of the movie “Meek’s Cutoff".
The film will play at 10 a.m. and again at 1 p.m. A Trails Center staff member will introduce the film before each showing. “Meek’s Cutoff" is 104-minutes-long and is rated PG for some mild violence, language, and smoking.
Directed by acclaimed director Kelly Reichardt, “Meek’s Cutoff" is based on the true accounts of mountain man Stephen Meek and group of pioneers traversing the Cascade Mountains in 1845. Claiming to know a shortcut (cutoff) Meek leads the group on an unmarked path and becomes lost. Over several days, the emigrants face the scourges of hunger, thirst, and lack of faith in each other’s survival instincts. When a Native America wanderer crosses their path, the emigrants are torn between their unreliable guide and a man who has always been seen as the natural enemy.
