LAS VEGAS - The Bureau of Land Management Southern Nevada District will hold a virtual information forum to involve the public in the early stages of a proposed Recreation Area Management Plan for the Harris Springs area.
The Red Rock/Sloan Field Office is in the initial stages of identifying issues for the plan and invites the public to submit comments. The plan would guide future development and provide management direction for recreation resources within the Harris Springs area, located in the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area northwest of Las Vegas, south of Nevada State Route 157.
In 2013, the Carpenter I fire burned a large area of public land within the area. The result left an open area with little to no vegetation. The BLM is seeking public involvement to gather information about the area and the comments/concerns with the growing uses.
“There has been an exponential growth in activities in the area that have created disturbances causing damages to the natural resources that need to be addressed," said Josh Travers, Red Rock/Sloan Field Office Assistant Manager. “This plan will address recreational uses, designated and unauthorized roads, vegetation rehabilitation and informational kiosks and signage."
The information forum will be held online on Nov. 10, 2021, from 6 to 8 p.m. Pacific Time. Those unable to attend the meeting, or wish to provide comments later, may email BLM_NV_SNDO_RR_HarrisSpringRamp@blm.gov until Dec. 3, 2021, at 4:30 p.m.
