Bureau of Land Management to hold public information forum on Harris Springs area recreation

The following press releases was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, Bureau of Land Management on Nov. 1, 2021. It is reproduced in full below.

LAS VEGAS - The Bureau of Land Management Southern Nevada District will hold a virtual information forum to involve the public in the early stages of a proposed Recreation Area Management Plan for the Harris Springs area.

The Red Rock/Sloan Field Office is in the initial stages of identifying issues for the plan and invites the public to submit comments. The plan would guide future development and provide management direction for recreation resources within the Harris Springs area, located in the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area northwest of Las Vegas, south of Nevada State Route 157.

In 2013, the Carpenter I fire burned a large area of public land within the area. The result left an open area with little to no vegetation. The BLM is seeking public involvement to gather information about the area and the comments/concerns with the growing uses.

“There has been an exponential growth in activities in the area that have created disturbances causing damages to the natural resources that need to be addressed," said Josh Travers, Red Rock/Sloan Field Office Assistant Manager. “This plan will address recreational uses, designated and unauthorized roads, vegetation rehabilitation and informational kiosks and signage."

The information forum will be held online on Nov. 10, 2021, from 6 to 8 p.m. Pacific Time. Registration for the forum, and more information on the area, is available at https://www.virtualpublicmeeting.com/harrisspringsramp-home. Those unable to attend the meeting, or wish to provide comments later, may email BLM_NV_SNDO_RR_HarrisSpringRamp@blm.gov until Dec. 3, 2021, at 4:30 p.m.

Before including your address, phone number, email address, or other personal identifying information in your comment, you should be aware that your entire comment, including your personal identifying information, may be publicly available at any time. While you can ask that your personal identifying information be withheld from public review, we cannot guarantee that we will be able to do so. Anonymity is not allowed for submissions from organizations or businesses and from individuals identifying themselves as representatives or officials of organizations or businesses.
