U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Linda Thomas-Greenfield met today with Israel’s Defense Minister Benny Gantz. Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield expressed the United States’ ironclad commitment to Israel’s security and discussed with Minister Gantz our shared commitment to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon. The two leaders expressed their concerns about Hizballah’s activities and noted their strong support for the mandate of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL). Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield underscored the critical need for accountability for the killing of Palestinian-American journalist Shireen Abu Akleh. She also reiterated the Biden Administration’s commitment to supporting efforts towards a two-state solution and its belief that Israelis and Palestinians deserve equal measures of freedom, security, prosperity, and dignity.
