Today, Education and Labor Committee Republican Leader Virginia Foxx (R-NC) applauded the Department of Health and Human Services’ (HHS) announcement that it will repeal its mask mandate for children as young as two in Head Start programs across the United States. The announcement comes after Foxx wrote HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra calling for an end to HHS’ interim final rule with comments.

“HHS’ injudicious mask mandates for children in Head Start programs have run contrary to the public health principles the agency claims to espouse,” said Foxx. “I am particularly pleased to see HHS charter a different course—one where the educational and emotional vitality of children is put first. The federal government must always be held to the highest standards of accountability—and I will not yield in the pursuit of doing so.”
