Help NOAA Fisheries Understand How Fishermen Market Their Catch

You can help to increase the visibility of the domestic seafood sector and the role seafood harvesters play in supporting the nation’s food system! NOAA Fisheries, the University of Maine, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture are trying to better understand how the nation's commercial seafood harvesters market their catch. The team sent a pre-survey questionnaire to identify commercial harvesters who engage in direct marketing practices and will distribute a survey early next year.

Researchers hope survey responses will:

  • Fill data gaps on seafood marketing at the national level
  • Increase understanding of local and regional seafood marketing practices
  • Remove barriers to direct marketing for the commercial fishing sector

If you are a commercial harvester and have received a questionnaire via mail, please complete and return it as soon as possible. It can be filled out via a returnable postcard or online, and should take less than 5 minutes to complete. Didn’t receive the pre-survey and think you should have? To receive a unique link to fill it out online, contact Dr. Sahir Advani at sahir.advani@maine.edu or (778) 223-6647.
