Today, U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Linda Thomas-Greenfield announced during a UN Security Council meeting that the United States will provide an additional $756 million dollars in humanitarian assistance for the Syrian people. This is in addition to the more than $800 million dollars in U.S. humanitarian assistance that the Ambassador announced in May, at the Brussels VI Conference, “Supporting the Future of Syria and the Region.”
This assistance will touch the lives of Syrians in all 14 governorates, and it responds directly to the UN’s Humanitarian Response Plan, in which early recovery accounts for over one quarter of activities. This new assistance will bring immediate relief to millions of refugees and displaced persons. It will help humanitarian partners provide clean water, food, hygiene and relief supplies, shelter, protection services, and critical health and nutrition assistance.
The United States will continue to do everything in its power to support the dire needs of the Syrian people.
