NIFA jointly funds new Aquaculture Information Exchange at Virginia Sea Grant

The National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) is joining other federal partners in funding a new Aquaculture Information Exchange at the Virginia Seafood Agricultural Research and Extension Center to enhance collaboration between people and organizations interested in aquaculture.

The $785,000 award will help to create and support, over the next four years, an online community that engages individuals from both the public and private sectors with interests in U.S. aquaculture and related topics. The new information exchange will be a place where growers, researchers, hatcheries, industry and government agencies can connect.

The grant is jointly funded by NIFA, the USDA Agricultural Research Service and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). It is part of a larger $14 million federal investment in strengthening U.S. aquaculture. The Virginia Sea Grant is a six-university partnership geared toward developing innovative solutions to marine and coastal challenges in Virginia.
