This afternoon at 5:05 p.m., a call came into the National Park Service (NPS) dispatch center reporting a possible drowning at Lake Mead. A visitor reported one of their friends was swimming off a houseboat and went under the water and did not resurface. NPS Rangers arrived by boat on-scene at about 5:33 p.m.
The missing swimmer is part of a group of about 30 visitors from California. The group is on three houseboats on Lake Mead. Their location is north of Echo Bay on the Arizona side of Lake Mead. Additional Rangers and the NPS dive team have been called out to try to locate the man.May 14th correction to original release. The victim was last seen, and the search is being carried out, in the Overton Arm of Lake Mead. This location is in Nevada.
