Acadia National Park Revises Summer Visitation Numbers

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on Oct. 23, 2006. It is reproduced in full below.

Because of equipment failure, Acadia National Park visitation numbers reported earlier for July and August relied on monthly use estimates using averages from the years 2002-2004. These averages suggested that park use in 2006 was up 6.6% in July and 12.1% in August when compared with July and August 2005.

Daily traffic count data previously unavailable was recently retrieved and park use recalculated for these months. Based on the new, more reliable figures, data now show park use was up 1.7% in July and down 2.4% in August. September visitation was up 3% from 2005.

As of Sept. 30, park use was down 0.5% from 2005, or about 9,300 visits. Park use in 2006 is now on track to be about even with 2005, with slightly over 2,000,000 visits.
