Lack of Snowcover Delays Availability of Snowmobiling for Traditional Activities

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on Dec. 13, 2006. It is reproduced in full below.

Due to the continued lack of adequate snow cover, all areas of the 1980 additions to Denali National Park and Preserve remain closed to the use of snowmobiles for traditional activities. Determinations to open areas for use will be made when snow conditions allow. All lands within the former Mount McKinley National Park on both the north and the south sides of the crest of the Alaska Range are permanently closed to all snowmobile use by federal regulation. Maps with GPS coordinates for the park and preserve boundary are available on the park website at www.nps.gov/dena.

Additional park information is also available at www.nps.gov/dena or by calling park headquarters at (907) 683-2294 from 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. daily.
