Proposed Fee Increases for National Park Service Southeast Utah Group (Moab)

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on Jan. 12, 2007. It is reproduced in full below.

In accordance with the Federal Lands Recreation Enhancement Act (REA), we are requesting comments from the public regarding proposed entrance fee increases for the National Park Service (NPS) Southeast Utah Group (SEUG). SEUG is comprised of Arches and Canyonlands National Parks and Hovenweep and Natural Bridges National Monuments. Such fee increases are being considered nationwide as a way to bring similar-sized parks into consistent fee structures. Entrance fees are used by SEUG parks for deferred maintenance projects, infrastructure improvements, and to directly address visitor needs. The camping fee at Arches National Park is proposed for increase in 2008 in order to recover reservation system charges.

Proposed fee increases under consideration are listed below. There is no change to the commercial vehicle fee, and children 15 and under are still free. Entrance fees at these parks have not been raised since 1996. If approved, these increases would take effect Jan. 1, 2008.
