Community Meeting

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on Jan. 22, 2007. It is reproduced in full below.

Park neighbors and the public are invited to attend a community meeting at the Kelso Depot Visitor Center on Feb. 10, 2007 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Park managers will discuss upcoming projects, including the status of plans for a restaurant at the Depot and the potential for bus tours from Barstow to Kelso. Park managers will also speak about the recent announcement of an entrance fee study proposal and about a nearly complete project to issue legal descriptions and maps of wilderness boundaries in the Preserve. This is also an opportunity to learn about new efforts to clean and remove dumps at Morningstar Mine and to study Preserve mule deer and water.

Following the presentations, which will take 30 to 45 minutes, there will be time for questions and conversation. Western National Parks Association, the non-profit organization that operates park bookstores, will provide light refreshments. Plan to come early so that you can spend time exploring the exhibits and viewing the park film at Kelso Depot.

For directions to Kelso Depot or additional information, please call 760 252-6101.
