NPS Seeks Public Comment on Proposed 2008 Fee Changes

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on April 13, 2007. It is reproduced in full below.

Outer Banks Group Superintendent Mike Murray announced today the public comment period for proposed 2008 park fees for several park facilities is now open through May 15.

The park annually compiles a rate survey of comparable businesses within the Outer Banks community. Based upon this survey the park is proposing increases to the rates at the Ocracoke, Oregon Inlet, Frisco and Cape Point Campgrounds; an increase for the vessel docking utility hookups at the Silver Lake Marina and an increase for the Wright Brothers National Memorial entrance fee. "We invite everyone to comment on this information," stated Murray. "Public participation is vital to the NPS planning process".

Below are the proposed new rates:

Silver Lake Marina: From $3 to $4 per night for 110 volts

Silver Lake Marina: From $5 to $6 per night for 120 volts

Camp sites at Oregon Inlet, Frisco and Cape Point Campgrounds: From $20 per night to $22 per night.

Ocracoke Campground: From $23 per night to $25 per night

Wright Brothers NM Entrance Fee: From $4 per person to $5 per person.

Following the comment period a decision on the proposed 2008 rates will be determined and any proposed fee changes will be submitted to the National Park Service Washington Office for final approval.

Specific information on the proposed rate changes is available on the NPS Planning, Environment, and Public Comment website: http://parkplanning
