National Park Service Beach Access Report for May 11, 2007

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on May 11, 2007. It is reproduced in full below.

****Information Update****

On May 10, 2007, prior to issuing the Beach Access Report, information was communicated that two piping plover nests were located inside the Cape Point pre-nesting area. Field observations later confirmed that one of those two nests was a least tern nest. We regret the error and, to date, there is one known piping plover nest at Cape Point.

In addition, on Hatteras Island, the Pole Road, with the bypass around the protection area at the Isabel overwash, and the Spur Road have re-opened to ORV use. Drainage and sunny conditions for the past two days allowed the roads to dry and were re-opened on Friday, May 11, 2007. The Cable Crossing Road is still closed at this time.
