"Artists Invited to Create White House Ornament"

As a part of the Nation Park Service Centennial Initiative, the White House is inviting each National Park site to submit an ornament that will be hung on the official White House Christmas Tree. After the holidays, the ornaments will become property of the national archives.

Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park is searching for an artist to create the park’s ornament. The White House will provide a Christmas ball for the selected artist to decorate. Interested artists should submit examples of their work on a CD and be sure to label the disc with your name. Discs cannot be returned. Along with an art sample, please include a sheet with the following: artist’s name, street address, email address, phone number, artist’s medium, and a brief write up of educational and artistic background. All submissions must be received by Monday, July 30, 2007, and sent to:

Attn: Ornament Artists

Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park

900 Kennesaw Mountain Drive

Kennesaw, GA 30152

The artist chosen will be notified by Monday, Aug. 20, 2007. The selected artist and a guest will be invited to a reception at the White House with First Lady Laura Bush during the holiday season. This is a unique opportunity for artists to express their creativity and have their work preserved along side other national treasures.
