The National Park Service’s YCC program was started in 1970 and continues to introduce young people, between the ages of 15 to 18 years old, to conservation and the National Parks. Ninety Six National Historic Site continues to participate in the YCC program. This year the park hired 5 young adults to help with projects through out the park from June 4 to July 27. Terrance Thompson was hired as the YCC work leader and will be a freshman at USC Upstate this fall. Josh McDonald was the YCC leader and is attending Piedmont Tech. Aryel Emmons and Jeremiah Rowe will be Seniors at Ninety Six High School this fall, and Shannon Hallman will be a Junior. This year the YCC built several split rail fences, cleared a path through the newly acquired land across Hwy 248 (Lee's Trenches), painted several gates, and much more.
