Lake Roosevelt NRA, WA. - The body of Jeri Fredin, 67, was located on the Colville Confederated Tribes shoreline of Lake Roosevelt on August 17. Fredin had been reported missing on August 13.
On, Thursday, August 9, Fredin left from the Grand Coulee Yacht Club in his sailboat and was expected to return on Monday, August 13. Fredin was observed sailing his vessel near the Camel Bluffs area during high winds on the evening of August 12. On Aug. 13, Fredin’s family located his abandoned 22’ Catalina Sailboat against a steep wall of rocks in the Camel Cliffs area and they notified the National Park Service (NPS). A search was initiated which involved NPS Rangers, Colville Confederated Tribes Rangers, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, volunteer searchers and family members. An extensive water and shoreline search was conducted. A helicopter from Fairchild Air Force Base was also provided for the search.
On the morning of August17 the missing boater’s body was located by his brother, Larry Fredin and volunteer searchers David and Bonney Schmidt. The body was transferred to the Ferry County Medical Examiners office. The NPS is conducting the investigation. A family liaison officer from the NPS is providing support services to the family.
