Trolley Track Costruction

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on Aug. 28, 2007. It is reproduced in full below.

(Lowell). Lowell National Historical Parks trolleys will be going off line for two weeks this September to address new rail installation. Beginning Monday, Aug. 27, fencing and a hay bale barrier will be installed. Much of the track in the straightaway will be removed during an evening so as not to impact Lowell high school. Track work will continue during the evenings from Wednesday August 29 and continue to Wednesday September 5. Mack Plaza will have some removals on the trolley bridge which is expected to take around four working days.

After the removals are done, the reinstallation will begin. The straightaway work is planned for the week of the September 17-21 and will once again be done in the evening. Much of the heavier resetting work on the bridge is planned for that week as well. The decking in and around Mack Plaza will be closed until mid-October.
