The 31st Annual Lake Mead Parade of Lights will be held at 6 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 1, in the Boulder Basin area of Lake Mead. The entrance fee will be waived for all participants and observers. This annual holiday event, sponsored by the Lake Mead Boat Owners’ Association (LMBOA) and the Las Vegas Boat Harbor marina, is a wonderful opportunity to bring the whole family down to Lake Mead to enjoy the brightly decorated vessels and this parade on the water. Boaters will depart from Las Vegas Boat Harbor at 7 p.m. and proceed along Boulder Beach, past the judges’ boat, and then back to Las Vegas Boat Harbor marina.Up to 50 sail and power boats ranging in size from 16-70 feet may be participating in this year’s Parade. All vessels are lighted and decorated in brilliant colors and designs for this Holiday celebration. There is no entry fee for vessels, but all boats must be registered and safety inspected prior to parade participation.
Favorite locations for watching the Parade of Lights are along Boulder Beach and at the Special Events Beach. Both beaches are accessible by taking US 95 to Boulder City and turning left at the second stoplight (Buchanan). Head toward the lake on US 93 and take the Lake Mead turnoff. You should plan to arrive before dark and dress warmly. Most of the decorated boats can be viewed at Las Vegas Boat Harbor before and after the parade. Las Vegas Boat Harbor is the first marina accessible from the Boulder City entrance to the recreation area -- turn right at Hemenway Harbor and then right on the marina access road. The annual Callville Bay Resort Dock of Lights will be held 5 p.m., Saturday, December 8 at Callville Bay Marina. This annual event is sponsored by the Lake Mead Yacht Club and Forever Resorts.Boats will be judged from the starboard side and trophies will be awarded in six classes.Please call the Geno Hill with the Lake Mead Yacht Club at 496.4991 if you need more information. The annual Alan Bible Visitor Center Open House will be held 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Saturday, December 8. If you are looking for holiday gifts or stocking stuffers, the bookstore will be offering a fifteen percent discount on all items purchased on December 8. There are a wide variety of books about birds, history, Native American lore and petroglyphs. There are also posters and videos about Lake Mead, Hoover Dam, and the Mojave Desert. For boaters, there are maps for fishing and navigation and for hikers, there are maps and navigation guides. All items for sale in the visitor center gift shop will be 15 percent off regular price. Cookies and hot beverages will be available for the visitors who enjoy the Desert Discovery Exhibit and ranger-led programs throughout the day. The annual Lake Mohave Holiday Parade of Lights will be held at dusk on Saturday, December 8 at Katherine Landing. All entrance fees into the park will be waived for participants and observers. The brightly decorated boats will be available for viewing in the Harbor area prior to the start of the parade. This event has been popular with locals and visitors alike for many years.
