Lowell Canalwater Cleaners, a partner with Lowell National Historical Park is the proud recipient two grants totaling $34,600 in their efforts to propel their anti-litter campaign at Lowell High School and purchase needed equipment to keep Lowell's canals clean. The award winning organization of over 471 volunteers has provided 5720 hours in 2007 in canal clean-up work. Director Bill Moreau said that the $25,000 grant from the Parker Foundation will fund the purchase of an equipment-hauling truck to use at Lowell Canalwaters Cleaners events, as well as a myriad of safety items and litter collection tools needed for the growing number of volunteer-members. The $9,600 grant from the Massachusetts Environmental Trust will fund the 2008 anti-litter educational and environmental stewardship activities being planned with the help of Lowell High School students.
