Boulder City, Nev. - The National Park Service is seeking public input to assist with the preparation of development concept plans (DCPs) and an accompanying environmental impact statement for the Cottonwood Cove and Katherine Landing developed areas on Lake Mohave. The Park Service will be holding public open houses in Bullhead City, Searchlight, and Boulder City where members of the community can make suggestions, comments, or identify issues that should be consider in the plans.
Public open houses will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on the following dates and locations:
• Bullhead City, Ariz.: Oct. 27, 2008, at the Mohave Community College, Room 210, 3400 Highway 95.
• Searchlight, Nev.: Oct. 28, 2008, at the Searchlight Community Center, 200 Michael Wendell Way.
• Boulder City, Nev.: Oct. 29, 2008, at the Boulder City Library, 701 Adams Boulevard.
The public may comment electronically via the National Park Service website at https://parkplanning.nps.gov/lame. This website includes a copy of the scoping newsletter. All future information and documents related to the DCPs will be posted on this website. Comments may also be mailed directly to Lake Mead National Recreation Area, Attn: DCP-EIS, 601 Nevada Way, Boulder City, NV 89005. Comments must be received no later than Nov. 15, 2008.
The purpose of the DCPs is to revisit the implementation strategies identified in the 1986 General Management Plan and 2003 Lake Management Plan for the national recreation area. A number of the management actions identified in the 1986 and 2003 plans require more site specific development planning prior to implementation, including a parking and traffic circulation analysis, site assessment to evaluate facility locations, and an economic feasibility study of concession operations.
This detailed planning will assist in identifying possible facility improvement, relocation, and expansion. Each DCP will provide an integrated plan for development with site specific guidance for the extent, type, and location of facilities and services that is consistent with the management direction and intent established in both previous plans.
